The future of brands points towards a single path, that of sustainability and transparency . And around these concepts there is already a large community of pioneering companies that have started the change. Since 2015, this community has met every year at Sustainable Brands , an event whose purpose is to promote a change in mentality, create alliances, share experiences and serve as a reference for the nearly 400 attendees from 25 different countries who attend each edition. In this edition, Sustainable Brands Madrid will have top-level speakers who will share their thoughts and opinions on how to respond to the main social challenges they face today. Among the speakers, attendees will find Irene Milleiro , Global Campaign Director of Change.org , the petition and crowdfounding platform that is transforming the way people get involved with social problems, who reveals to us what the current panorama is. on which companies must act and the responsibility that people have as consumers.
Sustainable Brands How would you say that communication tools and technology can promote social change in an eminently digital environment? I have been working on campaigns for social change for more Bahrain Phone Numbers List than 15 years, and the technological tools we have now have eliminated many barriers so that anyone can initiate changes. Anyone can create a petition in minutes, connect with people and organizations that have the same concerns, raise funds for a campaign, organize mass demonstrations, or draw the attention of politicians, media or companies on social networks. In the US, there are social organizations providing online psychological support for adolescents that use the anonymized location data they collect to help municipalities and the state prevent youth suicides, for example. And I think this is just the beginning. It seems that, every day, social problems, such as climate change, war conflicts in the world or inequality, cause greater concern among the population.
What do you think it is due to? Do you think that the Internet and access to information have something to do with it? Yes of course. I think it is due to a combination of factors. Without a doubt , greater access to information is very important, and brings us closer to realities that we did not reach before . And furthermore, this greater access to information has generated more desire for participation, which is possible with digital tools. But it is also due to the great dissemination work that many organizations have been carrying out for years on these issues, including in the educational field. The new generation is much more “eco-conscious ” than mine was. People are more aware of the impact their purchases have, so they look for brands and products that are associated with their values. Along the same lines, more and more companies are showing their involvement with this type of social causes. Do you think it is an autonomous change or is it due to consumer demands and their preference for brands with a purpose.
